Available to ALL Shidler Graduates, starting with Class of 2019

ETTER SCHOLARSHIP

$2,500 per year, renewable for up to four years, up to $10,000 per student

Dr SeussShidler Alum, Dr. Delores Van Camp Etter and her husband Jerry, have increased the amount and duration of their incentive scholarship.  The scholarship is awarded to every graduate of Shidler High School who enrolls and is accepted into any form of educational training beyond high school.  2019 Shidler High School Graduates are eligible to renew scholarships for additional years of eligibility under these new rules.  Additionally, the scholarship will be available to 2020 graduates and all other future Shidler Graduating Classes.  The scholarship will pay for college or vocational training as well as for military participation. With a belief that that continuing education and training beyond high school can help students secure good paying jobs and enjoy satisfying careers, Dr. Etter is now committing $2,500 per year and up to $10,000 in total award per student when renewed anually for four years of post-secondary education or training.  “Education,” she told students, “is your ticket”.  She also told students that, “post-secondary education is possible for anyone willing to commit themselves to it.”  Dr. Etter went on to tell students that she believes so strongly in the power of continuing education, that she and Jerry were willing to invest in their educational futures. As a school district, Shidler is tremendously thankful to Delores and Jerry for their immense generosity shown by this scholarship and also for the many other times and ways they have supported Shidler Schools and Shidler Students.  We are extremely proud of Dr. Etter’s distinguished lifetime accomplishments and are humbled that someone with her experiences and accomplishments would continue to return time and money to Shidler Schools, to a place where her education began. 4-Day Week  & Relationship to School Report Cards

Senate Bill 441 passed during the last Oklahoma Legislative Session.  This Law requires schools to apply for and be granted a waiver from the state in order to have a 4-Day School Calendar.  If the legislature gives final approval during this upcoming legislative session to move forward with the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s rules, this law will cause our school to return to a 5-Day School Calendar in 2021.  As it now stands, the state plans to use results from School Report Cards to either grant or deny calendar waivers to schools.  Below is a letter written by Shidler School Superintendent, Rick Rogers, to help our parents better understand school report cards and some of the reasons why report cards should not be used to determine our school calendar. Unless the legislature changes their minds about Senate Bill 441, our school will be forced to return to a 5-Day School Calendar in 2021. Click the links below to view or download the superintendent’s letter and our School Report Cards.

Pictured above is our new 2020 Bluebird Micro Bus.  The bus is a 14 passenger activity bus with lumbar supported bucket seats.  The bus comes with 14 phone charging stations in the wall panel at each seat.  The bus arrived on December 4, 2019 and our students, teachers and coaches are anxious to take it on the road.  In addition to being stylish and comfortable, the bus does not require drivers to have a Commercial Drivers License.  The bus will be used for field trips, athletic functions and many other school events when 14 or fewer passengers are being transported.  When not in use, the bus will be parked at the shop building along W. G. Ward Street.  The public is welcome to stop by and look the bus over.  We hope our parents and community members are as proud of the new bus as our students and staff are.

RC1An incredible act of kindness by the Shidler student body came just one day after participating in Rachel’s Challenge.  Students decided that the hallways of Shidler Middle and High School should be filled with positive messages from peers and teachers to let every person in the school know they had good qualities valued by others.

Rachel Joy Scott was the first victim of the terrible school shooting at Columbine High School.  Rachel’s example for how she treated others while alive and her insights though journal passages have inspired thousands to reflect on how every person can make the world a better place by treating others with kindness and respect. Rachel challenges us all to find the good in others and to encourage others when we can.

Shidler School staff are very proud of the leadership our student body is showing as our students strive to make our awesome school even better.  The encouragement offered to peers, teachers, cafeteria workers and custodians displayed though these messages reminds us of how truly awesome our students are!

parkingConstruction Fencing has been installed. The entire area east of the Bias Gym to W.G. Ward Street is fenced off to both vehicular and foot traffic until the new school is completed.  During construction of the new high school, parents and other visitors are asked to park and enter through either the north or east entrances of the elementary and high school buildings.  Parking is still available for ball games south of the Bias Gym; however, to gain entry into the school for anything other than ball games, persons parking south of the school will be required to walk around the east end of the construction fencing to the east side of the high school.

The elementary and high school principals’ offices will help visitors find their ways to the superintendents’ office as needed. Thank you for your patience and understanding as work to improve our facilities continues.

OUR NEW SCHOOL

Thank you Shidler School District Patrons for supporting the bond to build a new junior high and high school.  Site preparation and utility relocates have begun.  We want to thank our amazing architectural team at Boynton Williams and Associates, our General Contractor, Rick Scott Construction Company and all the quality subcontractors who will bring us a great new school.  Improvements to our district are only possible with the public’s support. THANK YOU!!!

The video below demonstrates the enthusiasm our students had as they witnessed

the final wall come down on the old wood shop building.
